NLCS International has signed an agreement with VLC Group, owners of premium hotels and resorts in Phuket and Khao Lak, to develop North London Collegiate School Phuket, bringing the educational model of one of the United Kingdom’s highest ranked independent schools to Thailand.
The new school will be developed as a premium co-ed day and boarding school in Cherng Talay, one of Phuket’s fastest growing residential districts.
The agreement was formally signed at Courtyard by Marriott Phuket, Patong Beach Resort, by Mr Daniel Lewis, Managing Director of NLCS International, and Mr Naruj Chirayus, Managing Director of VLC Group.
Founded in 1850 by educational pioneer Frances Mary Buss, North London Collegiate School is one of the most respected and academically successful independent schools in the UK. In The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, NLCS was named Independent Secondary School of the Year, Independent International Baccalaureate School of the Year and Independent Secondary School of the Year in London. NLCS was also ranked the number one girls’ school in the UK, second among all schools in London and third nationally.
NLCS International works with partners around the world to develop schools that reflect the founding school’s educational philosophy: academic ambition, pastoral care tailored to the individual, and a vibrant co-curricular life. Its current family of schools includes NLCS Jeju, NLCS Dubai, NLCS (Singapore), NLCS Kobe and NLCS Hong Kong, which is due to open in 2027.

Boarding will be a central part of the NLCS Phuket offer, enabling families to access an NLCS education without sending their children overseas, while strengthening Phuket’s position as a regional education base and keeping students closer to family, home markets and major travel hubs across Asia. The school is expected to open with capacity for approximately 1,000 students, with scope to grow to approximately 1,500 over time. Planned facilities include boarding accommodation, purpose built junior and senior schools, science and technology facilities, an Olympic swimming pool, sports hall, covered tennis courts and football pitches.
For Phuket, the arrival of a leading academic day and boarding school adds a significant layer to the island’s family and community infrastructure, supporting long term residential growth and strengthening its appeal to internationally mobile families, professionals and investors.
NLCS Phuket is scheduled to open in Q3 2028. Further details on admissions, campus development and timelines will be announced in due course.
