International Teacher Training Conference 2025

We were delighted to host our new international teachers at NLCS (UK) for a 3 day training conference.

The NLCS International Teacher Training Conference 2025 has drawn to a close after three transformative days of learning, sharing, and connection. Hosted at our mother school in London, this annual gathering brought together new teaching staff from across the NLCS family of schools; Jeju, Dubai, Singapore, and Kobe, as they prepare to join our communities this September.

Day 1: Welcome and Orientation

Day One began with warm welcomes and introductions, setting the stage for a meaningful and collaborative programme. Delegates received safeguarding and health & safety briefings, followed by inspiring addresses from Gwen Byrom (Director of Education Strategy, NLCSI), Michael Burke (Director of Educational Quality, NLCSI), and Vicky Bingham (Headmistress, NLCS UK).

Principals from each NLCS International school including Jon Locke (Dubai), Henry Wiggins (Jeju), Paul Friend (Singapore), and Matt Williams (Kobe) introduced their schools and shared insights into their local contexts. Afternoon sessions focused on the enrichment pillar of an NLCS education, the rich history of NLCS, and the academic life of our schools, culminating in a lively Senior Societies Fair and an afternoon tea drinks reception.

Day 2: Lessons in Action

Day Two offered an immersive look at NLCS teaching practices, with delegates participating in lesson observations, recorded lesson viewings, and Q&A sessions with school leaders. Sessions explored what defines an excellent lesson, the importance of pace and engagement, and the vital role of pastoral care in supporting high performance.

A highlight of the day was hearing directly from pupils during the pupil voice sessions, offering delegates an authentic glimpse into the student experience. The day concluded with reflections and cultural insights shared by school principals, followed by a celebratory group dinner.

Day 3: Preparing for the Year Ahead

The final day brought together the strands of learning and reflection from across the conference. Delegates engaged in sessions on the IB continuum, the IB Diploma Programme, the parent experience, and best practices in pastoral care and wellbeing. The conference closed with heartfelt reflections led by senior NLCS leaders and a reminder of the shared commitment that binds all our schools: ambition, scholarship, and compassion.

Looking Ahead

We extend our deepest thanks to all speakers, organisers, and delegates who contributed to the success of the NLCS International Teacher Training Conference 2025. As our new colleagues return home to prepare for the start of term, we know they carry with them a renewed sense of purpose and belonging to the NLCS family.

Together, we look forward to shaping futures, inspiring excellence, and upholding the NLCS values across the world. Here’s to a brilliant year ahead!

One delegate said:
what I liked most was seeing how all the current and previous NLCS staff talked about the history of the school and howproud they were to work either at the UK school, or at one of the international schools. Their pride and passion for their work and school was infectious and made me really look forward to joining the NLCS family.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the delegates who attended this year, as well as our Principals and staff from across our school group for their dedication to providing fulfilling sessions.
